At CEL, we use PBIS in collaboration with Restorative Practice in order to best meet the needs of our students. Through PBIS, there is a framework around RESPECT that may look different in each setting throughout the school. Students are made aware of the expectations in our community, environment and in learning. These expectations are taught, modeled, and practiced throughout the school year.
When conflict arises, we use Restorative Practice to learn from our mistake and to make things right (restore) with the person/people we have harmed or hurt (with our words or actions). Restorative Practices are done throughout the building for many different scenarios. Students have a voice in a safe environment and are given the opportunity to reflect on the impact their actions have on others. After going through a Restorative Practice conversation, students gain problem solving skills as well as confidence to handle problems in the future.
It is the mission and vision at Chester-East Lincoln that all students come to school feeling safe, welcomed, and loved. The teachers, staff, and administration work to provide a culture that supports and produces respectful human beings that are good problem solvers and make a difference in the community in which they live.
